Film and Public Talk: Rebirth of a Nation
D.W. Griffith's 1915 film Birth of a Nation was an overtly racist story depicted in the Reconstruction-era South. Miller’s remix, Rebirth of a Nation, hurtles Griffith’s images into the twenty-first century, a sociopolitical landscape that has evolved beyond all expectations.
Join us for a screening of Rebirth of a Nation, followed by Q&A with DJ Spooky. We'll be talking about racial imagery and cultural (mis)representation, the tools being used to re-imagine contemporary cinema, and the long history of black American remix culture.
In partnership with the Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State.
