Hellenic Studies Group
Christopher Moore, Department of Philosophy
John Jasso, Department of English
The Hellenic Studies Group brings together scholars across the College engaged with or curious about Ancient Greek culture – especially its philosophy, language, rhetoric, history, literature, art, and reception. Each year it devotes six meetings to a single interdisciplinary text – in 2016–2017, Aristotle’s reconstructed dialogueProtrepticus (“Exhortation to Philosophy”) – drawing on its participants and outside experts to lead those meetings. The primary goals are to increase intellectual conversation across departments, occasion mentorship and networking for graduate students, and facilitate new paper-exchanges across the College’s numbers Hellenic-studies scholars.
